The project was a collaborative effort between the East Midlands Development Agency, Lincoln City Council, and the University of Lincoln, aiming to create startup spaces for small businesses in Lincoln. It involved restoring a Railway Station Master's office and adding an extension to accommodate 18 starter units for new companies. The design process prioritized preserving the historical significance of the Station Master's building while addressing the challenge of integrating the larger extension harmoniously.

To maintain the integrity of the nineteenth-century building, each component was allowed to develop its unique identity, creating a distinct contrast with the contemporary new elements. The innovative use of materials such as timber and aluminum, along with the insertion of a steel frame, elevated parts of the new accommodation on piloti, providing a modern structural and material juxtaposition with the existing building.

This thoughtful approach led to the building's recognition in the RIBA EM Awards (2004), where it was shortlisted alongside other candidates. The project has been further featured in the RIBA Architecture Review
